11 year old girl marries a 40 year old man

03:40 0 Comments A+ a-

The sad phenomenon of child brides and even child grooms continue around the world. Before her wedding begins in rural Afghanistan, a 40-year-old man sits to be photographed with his 11 year old child bride. She tells the photographer that she is sad, because she hoped to become a teacher. Her favorite class is Dari, the local language, before she had to leave school to marry the 40 year old man. She is one of the 51 million child brides worldwide today. Although many in Afghanistan said that the men wait until puberty, women said that, indeed, men are having sex with their child brides even before puberty. In Yemen, there is a similar picture. Tehani and Ghada are sisters-in-laws photographed with their husbands, who are both members of the armed forces. Like most girls, Tehani did not even know that she was going to marry until the wedding night. She was only six years old. Tehani describes how she entered the marriage: "They were decorating my hands, but I did not know I was going to marry. Then my mother came and said," Come on my daughter. "They were dressing me up and I was wondering, 'where are you taking me?" Girls are not always the only ones forced to marry. A young boy got married in India and Nepal. Sometimes the boys who enter a marriage are also very young. And often they are also victims as much as girls of this traditional practice.

My mum's doing the shopping, call her if I need anything': Mother leaves baby in locked car with note

03:33 0 Comments A+ a-

Police officers were alerted to the situation at a supermarket car park in New Zealand after photos were posted online of the sleeping baby A mother left her baby alone in a locked car while she did the weekly shop with a note asking passers-by to call her if there were any problems. The shocking picture of the baby was taken by a concerned fellow shopper at the supermarket car park in Porirua, New Zealand. A man who parked next to the woman's car saw the infant inside with a note which read "My mum's doing the shopping, call her if I need anything" and a mobile phone number written underneath. He told a local newspaper: "We waited there for a little bit, wondering if the mum was just going to be two seconds and come back. "And my wife said, 'I'm not going in without someone being here with the baby'." According to the newspaper, two more people waited by the car and one of them phoned the mother to tell her to come outside. The image was later posted online sparking outrage across the country. Facebook user Cat Marie Horne wrote: "I'm sorry this is completely irresponsible! You do not leave children under the age of 14 unsupervised at all. "Why did she have time to write a note?? Secondly, you do not put a capsule seat in the front of a car, due to dashboard airbags. Also, if you are that tired you should not be driving." A spokeswoman for the New Zealand police said it was aware of the incident but said the mother would not face charges unless a member of the public made a complaint. She said: "We don't know who the people are, we don't know the phone number- we don't know where to start. We would launch an investigation if we could but at this stage no one's come forward." Parents in New Zealand can be fined up to $2,000 (£1,000) for leaving a child under 14 years old alone for an 'unreasonable' length of time. In an even more shocking child neglect case in China earlier this month, a thief who stole a car with a baby boy still strapped inside brutally murdered the child when he would not stop crying. Zhou Xijun, 48, strangled the two-month- old tot fearing his screams would alert passersby. He then buried the infant in a shallow grave and drove off.

HANDLING CRITICISM

‘…Judge nothing before the appointed time…’
1 Corinthians 4:5

Someone once quipped, ‘Every baseball team could use someone who knows how to play every position, never strikes out, and never makes an error. The only problem is; it’s hard to make him put down his hotdog and come out of the spectator stands!’ All of us need the advice and input of others. But you should only consider the advice of a critic when: 1) You know you are valued by the one who criticises you. 2) The criticism is not tainted by his or her personal agenda. 3) The person is not naturally critical of everything. 4) The person will continue giving support after giving advice. 5) He or she has knowledge and success in the area of the criticism. What really hurts is the criticism of people who are important to you. It’s hard to have your dream criticised by those you admire, love and respect. But if you want to achieve your dream, you’ll have to learn how to pay that price too. On the other hand, Stacy Allison, the first American woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, points out that there are times in your life when it’s okay not to listen to what other people are saying. ‘If I’d listened to other people I wouldn’t have climbed Mount Everest.’ If you have a God-given promise and purpose, and if your heart is right, then disregard unjustified criticism and stand on this Scripture: ‘Judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.’

MIGHTY MOUSE ATTACK SNAKE TO SAVE PAL

A mouse has been given its freedom after it tackled a poisonous snake in a bid to save a fellow rodent at a zoo in China.

Mighty mouse attacks snake to save pal::::

Two mice were served up as a live dinner for the snake at Hangzhou Zoo in Zhejiang province, eastern China.

Keeper Wen Shao said: "We always give the snakes live food and we put the two mice into the snake enclosure, but instead of trying to hide like they usually do one of the mice attacked the snake when it saw it trying to eat the other mouse.

"I have never seen anything like that before, usually the mice keep as far away from the snake as possible but this one caused a lot of damage.

"It was biting the snake on the head as the snake was trying to eat the first mouse."

He added that the mouse had deserved its freedom after putting up such a brave fight.

"In any case it didn't do the snake any good either, it was expensive and the mouse did a lot of damage by biting it on the head," he added.

Sadly the mouse did not succeed in its bid to free its pal. It died and was later eaten even if mighty mouse was no longer around to witness it.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN TO THIS MAN SERIOUSLY

ALBERT EINSTEN WAS BORN TODAY MARCH 14 1879

09:35 0 Comments A+ a-

On March 14, 1879, Albert Einstein is born, the son of a Jewish electrical engineer in Ulm, Germany. Einstein's theories of special and general relativity drastically altered man's view of the universe, and his work in particle and energy theory helped make possible quantum mechanics and, ultimately, the atomic bomb.
After a childhood in Germany and Italy, Einstein studied physics and mathematics at the Federal Polytechnic Academy in Zurich, Switzerland. He became a Swiss citizen and in 1905 was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of Zurich while working at the Swiss patent office in Bern. That year, which historians of Einstein's career call the annus mirabilis--the "miracle year"--he published five theoretical papers that were to have a profound effect on the development of modern physics.
In the first of these, titled "On a Heuristic Viewpoint Concerning the Production and Transformation of Light," Einstein theorized that light is made up of individual quanta (photons) that demonstrate particle-like properties while collectively behaving like a wave. The hypothesis, an important step in the development of quantum theory, was arrived at through Einstein's examination of the photoelectric effect, a phenomenon in which some solids emit electrically charged particles when struck by light. This work would later earn him the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics.
In the second paper, he devised a new method of counting and determining the size of the atoms and molecules in a given space, and in the third he offered a mathematical explanation for the constant erratic movement of particles suspended in a fluid, known as Brownian motion. These two papers provided indisputable evidence of the existence of atoms, which at the time was still disputed by a few scientists.
Einstein's fourth groundbreaking scientific work of 1905 addressed what he termed his special theory of relativity. In special relativity, time and space are not absolute, but relative to the motion of the observer. Thus, two observers traveling at great speeds in regard to each other would not necessarily observe simultaneous events in time at the same moment, nor necessarily agree in their measurements of space. In Einstein's theory, the speed of light, which is the limiting speed of any body having mass, is constant in all frames of reference. In the fifth paper that year, an exploration of the mathematics of special relativity, Einstein announced that mass and energy were equivalent and could be calculated with an equation, E=mc2.
Although the public was not quick to embrace his revolutionary science, Einstein was welcomed into the circle of Europe's most eminent physicists and given professorships in Zýrich, Prague, and Berlin. In 1916, he published "The Foundation of the General Theory of Relativity," which proposed that gravity, as well as motion, can affect the intervals of time and of space. According to Einstein, gravitation is not a force, as Isaac Newton had argued, but a curved field in the space-time continuum, created by the presence of mass. An object of very large gravitational mass, such as the sun, would therefore appear to warp space and time around it, which could be demonstrated by observing starlight as it skirted the sun on its way to earth. In 1919, astronomers studying a solar eclipse verified predictions Einstein made in the general theory of relativity, and he became an overnight celebrity. Later, other predictions of general relativity, such as a shift in the orbit of the planet Mercury and the probable existence of black holes, were confirmed by scientists.
During the next decade, Einstein made continued contributions to quantum theory and began work on a unified field theory, which he hoped would encompass quantum mechanics and his own relativity theory as a grand explanation of the workings of the universe. As a world-renowned public figure, he became increasingly political, taking up the cause of Zionism and speaking out against militarism and rearmament. In his native Germany, this made him an unpopular figure, and after Nazi leader Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany in 1933 Einstein renounced his German citizenship and left the country.
He later settled in the United States, where he accepted a post at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He would remain there for the rest of his life, working on his unified field theory and relaxing by sailing on a local lake or playing his violin. He became an American citizen in 1940.
In 1939, despite his lifelong pacifist beliefs, he agreed to write to President Franklin D. Roosevelt on behalf of a group of scientists who were concerned with American inaction in the field of atomic-weapons research. Like the other scientists, he feared sole German possession of such a weapon. He played no role, however, in the subsequent Manhattan Project and later deplored the use of atomic bombs against Japan. After the war, he called for the establishment of a world government that would control nuclear technology and prevent future armed conflict.
In 1950, he published his unified field theory, which was quietly criticized as a failure. A unified explanation of gravitation, subatomic phenomena, and electromagnetism remains elusive today. Albert Einstein, one of the most creative minds in human history, died in Princeton in 1955.

A NEW POPE EMERGES: CARDINAL BERGOGLIO IS POPE FRANCIS

09:27 0 Comments A+ a-

 new-pope-francis.jpg

There was white smoke over Rome after dark fell there, and bells were tolling. After only a little more than a day, a new Pope had been chosen, on the fifth ballot. An hour of uncertainty passed, then a French cardinal came out and announced, in Latin, the name this Pope was leaving behind: Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina, the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, and a Jesuit. He got to pick a new name; John Paul I, the Pope of thirty-three days, chose his as a symbol of combining the qualities of Paul VI and John XXIII. So it might matter a good deal that Bergoglio chose Francis, evoking the Saint of Assisi and his commitment to the poor. He will be the first Pope with this name. If that symbol will have to be proven out, the selection of a Pope from Latin America is a more immediate one. It affirms the Church’s transformation, and may give it better footing in the world, if not a grasp of it.
Pope Francis is seventy-six. He reportedly came in second when Benedict XVI was elected. He was born in Buenos Aires, in 1936. There have been African Popes, a millennium and a half ago, but Francis is the first non-European since then, and the first ever from what old Popes call the New World. One of the first details mentioned after his name became known was that he takes public transportation. As with kings, we like to imagine Popes in disguise, walking in dark streets. That is not so likely, whatever Francis’s preferences: when he came out, after a moment in which the curtain on the balcony overlooking the square seemed to quiver, he smiled in a way that made him hard to forget. It made him seem, really, like someone who had been known to the crowd for a long time. That may just be the daze of a first-glance surprise, but it is different from the reaction to Benedict.
The white smoke, by the way, was from the burning of the ballots. So is the black smoke, but different chemicals are shaken on top of each, as they are put in a special oven, in one of the gestures in which Vatican officials assume the aspect of alchemists. This morning, as the Times reported, the Vatican gave out the recipe: for white and a Pope, add potassium chlorate, milk sugar, and pine rosin. (Andy Borowitz, our satirical correspondent, came up with the headline “VATICAN CALLS WHITE SMOKE A FALSE ALARM: ‘WE WERE JUST BURNING DOCUMENTS’ ”) There are documents that may be troubling waiting for Francis in a safe in the sealed Papal apartments, the detritus of the Vatileaks mess. One wonders if he will be troubled by what he reads there, or if he will shrug. Most radically, he might do something about it, and about the many troubles the Church is in.
President Obama, in congratulating Francis, called him “a champion of the poor and the most vulnerable among us.” Maybe he will be. One should assume a baseline of conservatism on certain issues, though, including on ones involving the lives of women. And, according to the Catholic News Service, when Argentina legalized gay marriage, in 2010, Bergoglio “encouraged clergy across the country to tell Catholics to protest.” (There are also questions about what he may have failed to protest during Argentina’s Dirty War.) How theologically conservative Francis really is, and how willing he is to be humble when it comes to the Church’s prerogatives and its scandals, are different questions; still, they are related.
An hour after the smoke came out, the name still hadn’t leaked. People still repeated the names of the same candidates: Scola, Turkson, Scherer, Dolan. Almost no one expected Bergoglio. The crowds in Saint Peter’s Square are shouting and dancing; they still are waving the flags of different contenders, Brazilian, Italian, and American, too. Maybe some were put in backpacks when Bergoglio came out, or tossed to the Vatican marching band that came out in the square to fill the ecclesiastical halftime, with guards in blue cloaks with metal helmets and musicians wearing hats with red and white feathers. When he told a joke about how far the cardinals had gone to look for him they laughed. They even cheered and joined his prayer for Benedict. He asked the crowd to bless him—“pray in silence for me.” He also said, “Let’s pray for the world.”

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez dies

A deeply divided Venezuela is
mourning its late leader and preparing to
pick a new president to replace him.
Venezuelan officials called for peace and
unity after President Hugo Chavez's death
on Tuesday, emphasizing in state television
broadcasts that all branches of the
government and the military were standing
together.
Elections will be held in 30 days, and Vice
President Nicolas Maduro will assume the
presidency in the interim, Foreign Minister
Elias Jaua said in an interview broadcast on
state-run VTV.
Tearing up as he announced Chavez's
death after a long battle with cancer,
Maduro called on Venezuelans to remain
respectful.
"We must unite now more than ever,"
Maduro said.
Henrique Capriles Radonski, a former
presidential candidate and opposition
leader, said Venezuelans should come
together.
"This is not the time for difference," he
said. "It is the time for unity. It is the time
for peace."
Supporters of Chavez poured into a
Caracas square soon after news of his
death spread. Some wept openly. Others
waved flags and held up pictures of the late
president.
There were no reports of major violence,
but there was palpable tension in the
streets, as some Venezuelans heading
home from work tried to steer clear of
Chavez's fervent supporters.
Venezuela's military is in a "process of
deploying ... to ensure the safety of all
Venezuelans" and to support the country's
constitution in the wake of Chavez's death,
said Adm. Diego Molero, Venezuela's
defense minister.

Venezuela prepares for funeral,
elections
Venezuela's government has declared
seven days of national mourning, Jaua said.
At Venezuelan embassies around the world
Tuesday, flags were flying at half mast.
Chavez's remains will be taken to a military
academy in Caracas on Wednesday, Jaua
said. There he will lie in state for three
days. His state funeral will be held there on
Friday morning, Jaua said.
The announcement of Chavez's death came
hours after Maduro met with the country's
top political and military leaders about
Chavez's worsening health condition and
suggested someone may have deliberately
infected Chavez with cancer.
Chavez first announced his cancer
diagnosis in June 2011, but the government
never revealed details about his prognosis
or specified what kind of cancer he had
Shortly before his last trip to Cuba for
cancer surgery in December, Chavez
tapped Maduro as the man he wanted to
replace him.

Didn't always exude confidence, spilling the odd shot or mistiming the occasional punch butprevented his side from conceding more than one goal and was unfortunate to see his own team-mate knock the ball past him. A brilliant, match-winning display.Real Madrid used their man advantage and sealed the aggregatevictory with two goals in three minutes. Substitute Luka Modric equalised with a stunning strike from 25 yards before Ronaldo slid in at the far post to break the heartsof supporters who gave him a hero's reception before kick-off.The result completes a wonderful week for the Spanish giants following two wins over bitter rivalsBarcelona and the visiting fans saluted coach Jose Mourinho as they target an historic 10th European crown.Ronaldo had a relatively quiet gameon his first return to Old Trafford since his £80m transfer in 2009 but the script was always written for thePortuguese forward to have the final say.He may not have done so were it not for referee Cuneyt Cakir, who infuriated United with his decision to show a red card to Nani. The United winger appeared to be challenging for the ball and certainly meant no harm to Arbeloa, but the consequence of hisdismissal was that the home side's gameplan, which had worked so well to that point, was ruined.Sir Alex Ferguson made a hugely bold decision of only naming Wayne Rooney as a substitute for United, with Ryan Giggs making his 1000th career appearance in centralmidfield in the absence of Phil Jones with an ankle injury. NemanjaVidic returned at centre-back in place of Jonny Evans after the United captain missed the first leg. There were no such surprises in theReal Madrid line-up, with Gonzalo Higuain selected ahead of Karim Benzema to lead the attack as Jose Mourinho returned to his first choice starting XI having rested a number of players in the 2-1 win over Barcelona on Saturday.Mourinho claimed this clash between two of the biggest clubs in the Europe would "stop the world" and stars past and present were in attendance at Old Trafford for this showpiece occasion, from Diego Maradona to Gareth Bale.Ferguson called on the crowd to"turn up the volume" in his pre-match programme notes and Old Trafford was a cauldron of noise at the teams made their way out of the tunnel at the Stretford End,  with the home fans unveiling amosaic in support of their team.As the team line-ups were read out,Ronaldo's name was greeted with an enormous roar from all sides of the stadium, the former United manlooking choked as he patted his chest and raised an arm to acknowledge the reception.Ferguson predicted an attacking game but set out to stifle Real and counter-attack, with his plan working almost perfectly in the first half as they restricted the visitors and came closest to opening the scoring.United captain Vidic thought he hadscored in the 21st minute but his thumping header from Giggs’ corner rattled against the post before Danny Welbeck, admittedly in an offside position, mishit the rebound straight at Real goalkeeperDiego Lopez.CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LATEST5/2Real Madrid are 5/2 favouriteswith Paddy Power to win the Champions LeagueIn the 34th minute, Lopez was againforced in to action as he made a hash of his attempt to save Robin van Persie’s shot from a tight angle and had to react quickly to deflect Welbeck’s rebound over the crossbar with his shoulder. But the hosts had to wait less than three minutes after the break to take the lead. After Madrid defenders blocked twoUnited shots in the penalty area, theball landed at Nani's feet on the left. The Portuguese winger played the ball into the box and, after the faintest touch off Welbeck,Ramoscould only turn it into his own net.The turning point, however, came inthe 56th minute when Nani was shown a straight red card by Turkish referee Cakir for a high footin a 50-50 challenge with Arbeloa. On first viewing, it looked a harsh decision and it certainly left Ferguson and the United players fuming with the officials.Mourinho responded to the man advantage by bringing on Modric for Arbeloa and the former Tottenham midfielder levelled the score in the 66th minute. After picking the ball up 30 yards from goal,Modricbreezed past Tom Cleverley and struck a thunderous effort in off the post from 25 yards.Three minutes later, Real Madrid took the lead for the first time in thetie. Higuain fizzed a low cross along the six-yard box andRonaldoused all of his predatory instincts to slidein at the far post and end United's European campaign.

I cannot reject aircraft gift – Abiara

10:16 0 Comments A+ a-

General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic
Church, Prophet Kayode Abiara, says
controversies surrounding the
ownership of aircraft by prominent
Christian clerics in the country are not
justified.
“If I am given an aircraft as a gift, I
cannot reject it,” Abiara said while
speaking on the church’s planned prayer
session billed for Odo Owa,Kwara State
on Wed-Friday next week .
According to him, those who have been
criticising the purported extravagant
lifestyle of some Christian leaders in the
country do not quite understand the
scriptures.
He said, “Christians need to understand
that the scripture supports receiving
gifts. Having a jet or a helicopter, for
example, will greatly advance the work
of God. It is good for christendom.”
The prophet, who said the controversy in
the CAN had been exaggerated, called on
the Catholic Church to embrace dialogue
because of its importance to the
association.
He rose to the defence of CAN
leadership, saying it was not true that it
had become “too friendly” with the
government.
Abiara said, “As Christian leaders, we do
our duty by giving advice to the
government whenever we can. That does
not mean CAN has become an arm of
government.
“Because we do not say something bad
about the government all the time does
not mean we are compromised in any
way. I do not collect any money from any
government official.”

Tottenhamextended theirPremier Leagueadvantage overArsenalto seven points after completing a clinical 2-1 win in a highly-charged north London derby.First-half goals from Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon were enough to take Spurs back above Chelsea to third in the top flight.Per Mertesacker pulled one back forthe visitors in the 51st minute but, despite a glut of late chances from both sides, a fiercely contested and hugely entertaining encounter finished in favour of Andre Villas-Boas’ in-form team.Tottenham’s fourth consecutive Premier League win has lifted them to within two points of second-placed Manchester City, who travel to Aston Villa on Monday night.Arsenal’s seventh league defeat of the season leaves them five points adrift of the Champions League places with less than a quarter of the season remaining.Bale set Spurs on their way in the 37th minute with his 10th goal in eight games as he once again demonstrated what a threat he is in the central role that Villas-Boas has created for him.But this was no one-man show. The home team had heroes all over the pitch as they mixed disciplined, resolute defence with some thrilling counterattacks.A strong second-half fightback proved in vain for Arsenal, who made one change from the team that beat Aston Villa last weekend, with Aaron Ramsey replacing the injured Abou Diaby.Gylfi Sigurdsson was rewarded for his equaliser in the 3-2 win over West Ham by getting the nod over Lewis Holtby, while Benoit Assou-Ekotto came in for the injured Steven Caulker. Jermain Defoe was named as a substitute following a month on the sidelines. The opening quarter of the match was played at a frantic pace, with both teams urgently compressing space to keep chances to a premium.Arsenal were marginally the more composed of the two sides, supplying spearhead Olivier Giroud with some good ammunition, but the Frenchman lacked the quick reflexes to execute effectively.Wenger’s team undid their good work of the opening 35 minutes withthe kind of statue-esque defending that has become all too familiar in recent years. In the 37th minute, Bale’s run between the centre-backs was spotted by Sigurdsson and his sumptuous pass was seized upon bythe Welshman with almost effortlesscool. Barely breaking stride,Baleslotted it to the left of Wojciech Szczesny.Chants of ‘Gareth Bale, he scores when he wants’ were followed by ‘When the Spurs go marching in’ after Lennon emerged victorious in another one-on-one with Szczesny 140 seconds later to send the home fans wild.

Benin said Sunday that authorities have thwarted an attempt to oust President Thomas Boni Yayi and install a military regime in the west African nation. In a statement read to journalists, state prosecutor Justin Gbenameto said a colonel and businessman were arrested for plotting “to block the head of state from returning to Cotonou after his trip and to institute a military regime.”Yayi, who recently completed a one-year term as chairman of the African Union, had travelled to Equatorial Guinea last month for a summit with South American leaders.Gbenameto said Colonel Pamphile Zomahoun and prominent accountant and businessman Johannes Dagnon were in custody and investigations were continuing. The prosecutor urged citizens to “have confidence” in the authorities.Alleged plots against the government are not new for the small west African nation that borders Nigeria.Last year, businessman Patrice Talon, the president’s niece and others were arrested after being accused of scheming to replace the president’s heart medication with poison.
